Are you ready to learn about the importance of water and all the funs things to do with, in, and around it? Do you want to see, touch, and maybe even catch some of the most unique creatures that inhabit our local waters? The Grand American Fish Rodeo Festival has assembled a pro team to help teach you all about it, using many fun hands-on activities! Come learn how to fish, about invasive species, proper watershed management, knot tying, fly tying, casting, and much more! Come to see and learn about aquatic insects, lamprey, mussels, muskie, sturgeon, fish eggs and all sorts of fun critters from our lakes, rivers and streams. This family friendly tent will bring professional organizations under one tent with interactive activities for all ages to learn more about the world’s most precious resource...WATER. Admission is free!
Under the "All Things Water" Education Tent you can interact with living displays and partake in the many great activities that will be offered for kids of all ages by the following:
- Great Lakes Fishery Commision, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Sea Lamprey Control, Michigan Muskie Alliance, Grand River Bait and Tackle, Michigan Sea Grant, Gordon Guide Services, USFWS Fisheries, USFWS Private Lands, USFWS Contaminants, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Invasive Species Mangement, MSU Fisheries, Pro-Anglers, "Swish the Fish", "Gil the Fish" from Delhi Township and more.
Learn more and sign you kid(s) up for:
- "Fish Like A Pro Clinic" is a free fishing clinic for kids and families to learn how to fish, taught by a pro-angler and assisted by biologists from the USFWS. This clinic will take place from 8am - 12pm and be in two (2) hour sessions, limited to 25 children per session. Advanced registration required, please specify which time slot you prefer.
- "Fingerlings Fishing Tournament", children from the ages of 6 - 12 can try their hands at fishing for a chance to win some pretty cool stuff, including fishing gear to get them going on a bright fishing career! This will take place after the "Fish Like a Pro Clinic" from 1pm-5pm. USFWS biologists and volunteers will put the "Fish Like a Pro" graduate's new skills to the test. Parents please remain within the area. Registration required and limited to 50 kids.
The Education Tent is FREE for all ages, families, youth groups and classrooms.
